Pixelart Gear Animation

Description

Finally getting around to uploading this, it is a more recent animation from about 3 months ago.  As you can see, I decided to put the progress of the finished animation in as well, starting from the left and going to the right, with the top and bottom halves being variations of each other.

[]To explain the advancement between each one, Starting at the very left:
-The left-middle gears are where it starts, I didn't put any of the sketches here, but that's mainly because I didn't keep them.
This is the finished animation, no color or shading, just the outlines, pretty simple, but this was the hardest thing to achieve overall for me.
The difference between the top and bottom gears, is just that I inverted the inside, so it didn't take much work to do, but it looks like a completely different gear.

-The animation above and below the first described are outlines I placed to show some depth, I put them here just because I thought that they looked kinda of cool by themselves.

-Moving directly right to those (second column), the gears are now colored, the top having the 'depth lines' from the previous point, looking at the two colored gears here, you can really see the difference when adding depth to them, even as simple as the ones I placed.

-Moving directly right to those (third column), which just has two gears (one for each variation).  I prefer taking the regular black outlines out of what I do in pixelart, so this is where I changed them to be in color, and adding basic shading as well.

-Moving directly right to those (fourth column), this is the finished product for both gears, the top having improved shading and highlights that I thought made the gear seem a little bumpier and slightly older while still being shiny.  While the bottom gear had a strip of light placed along the side to make it seem simple and clean, and making it seem much more tangible than the previous column.

-This is the last column (fifth column), the only difference between this set and the last is purely just the color, going from a brown-bronze color, to a cool blue-Metallic color.
I did this alternate color for fun, to see what effect a different color would have on the animation quality.  Honestly, I much prefer this blue color to the brown one, and all I did was just color key the brown.  I even thought about putting in more colors like a green or red gear, but this was done a not-so-great computer so it was going real slow.  It was a pretty big pain to compile these all together, took about 3 hours or so, But I think that it was worth it to see these all side-by-side for comparison.

I enjoyed doing this animation a lot, but it was VERY time consuming as animation tends to be, but I'm gonna continue to do stuff like this.  I like the thought of making video game sprites was exciting to me.  I wanted to start putting in as many frames as I can to make the smoothest animation that I possibly can, I played a game called Shantea again, and the art and animation in that were outstanding to me, I was inspired by it.  So thank you for viewing this, and I'm gonna continue making more.
Also, I seemed to have fixed the preview image 'problem' so it should look fine from here on out
